Graceland International Incorporated (GII) is a
national based organization established September 3, 1996 in Bomi County
through the vision of the late Moses K. Cooper, former Executive Director of
the organization and subsequently incorporated on December 31, 1996 with the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Liberia and accredited by sectorial
Ministries of the Government of Liberia base on Graceland areas of opration. The
establishment of Graceland was necessitated as a result of the many eminent
developmental challenges Liberia is faced with. Graceland is, and remains one
of the credible and committed organizations to the development of Liberia. From
1996 to 2000, Graceland International Incorporated voluntarily initiated
programs within its birth place (Tubmanburg). Graceland partnership with
UN-HACO and the then National Disarmament and Demobilization Commission or NDDC
by providing job opportunity for over 350 ex-combatants in the Tubmanburg
vicinity through feeder roads and minor bridges repaired or rehabilitation. The
establishment of Graceland is built on the concept of empowerment and
development.
In the embryonic stage of Graceland, interventions
were made on a charitable basis by founders of the organization in order to
build its track-record and capacity. Funding for the first durable fencing of
the C. H. Dewey Sports Stadium in Tubmanburg was made available by founders of
Graceland and subsequently implemented. The budget for the zinc round fencing
was value at six thousand United States Dollars (6,000.00), this exercise in
itself indicated a commitment to the development of the organization and society
at large.
Graceland activity is confined within the
territorial limits of Liberia and engages in the following thematic program
areas:
Ø Education, Human Resource Capacity Building and
Training
Ø Construction and Rehabilitation
Ø Water and Sanitation
Advocacy, Gender Issues, Sports and Recreation
